Measuring Tips
When ordering a bridal gown, or bridesmaid gown, or any gown for that matter. You need to order the size closest to your measurements. That often means ordering a gown to fit the larger of the measurements. For instance if your bust measurement says you will wear a 10, and your waist says you will wear a 12, order the 12. It is always easier to take in than let out. Remember some fabrics show when let out. Also remember that the bridal sizes are generally 2 sizes smaller than regular sizing. No vanity sizing here. Sorry ladies.

So how do you take your measurements?
Formalities recommends, a professional seamstress, the one who will alter your gown, take your measurements for you. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TAKE YOUR OWN MEASUREMENTS - THEY WILL BE WRONG! Use a vinyl tape-measure; fabric ones tend to stretch over time and your dress will be ordered too small. When you measure, wear shoes with a heel height similar to what you plan to wear on your wedding day, wear a similar bra or bustier and, if you are wearing a crinoline, the crinoline. The crinoline will affect the Hollow to hem measurement.

If you need help or have any questions, call us at 1- 540-723-4245.

Your dress manufacturer may not need all these measurements, but it's good to have them all, just in case. Most need: you bust, waist and hips. Some companies will make gowns hollow to hem. They charge about $75- about $200.00. Be sure you have the correct shoe heel on, and the undergarments you intend to wear when you get measured.
